San Jose appealed slightly more on my second visit, but remains a pretty ugly city! Wandering through the chain of squares and parks, with a wealth of people walking, sitting or performing, it was hard to put a finger on why it just doesn't quite work. Whilst there though, I caught up with my lovely Kiwi phase two companion. After scouring the streets for a nice bar/cafe for dinner, we had a tasty meal and I quaffed my first alcoholic beverage since Bocas, whilst we exchanged stories of the last two weeks, before heading to my hostel for a nightcap.
Next stop was San Ramon and whilst only an hour or so from San Jose, it has a totally different vibe
Upon arrival I was whisked to one of the tastiest lunches I've had in ages at 'Cafe Delicious', which lived up to it's name. This was followed by a whistlestop visit to the town of Grecia, to see the beautiful brick red metal church with gingerbread trimming, which was strangely built in Belgium and shipped over in 1887. A tasty home cooked meal and drinks out in a local bar then ensued, followed by a lazy day today, with a tortilla making lesson and walking the dogs. My time here was so close to 'normal life' that, for the first time, I felt a little homesick.
It's been great catching up with the Raleigh girls and now I'm moving on the pastures new and making my way north, up a swiss cheese road, to my next stop in Monteverde.
