Bleary eyed we got up at 3am and jumped in a 4x4. We were taken to a look out point to watch the sunrise over Mount Bromo, an active volcano in East Java 2,329 metres above sea level. The view was spectacular, look at the photos.
After we watched the sunrise we jumped back into the 4x4s and were taken to the foot of the volcano. Now we were informed that the area surrounding the volcano had been closed up until March as the volcano had erupted in January! Urm well we didn't know that. Oh well we were there now so we may as well fully embrace the experience and walk to the top of the puffing volcano. It was an incredible.
Safety is not number one!
Now here's a couple of big differences between the UK and Indonesia:
1. You would never be allowed to trek up and to look into an active volcano
2. without a guide
3. without any form of safety measures like a barrier at the top

It's Friday afternoon at the end of yet another very long week and this made me chuckle! I think the definition of safety in a post riot London may well have changed but hey ho. You guys look amazingly health, and it looks like you are having an incredible time. V jealous but keep us updated. Take care. S x
