Beth and I went to Playa Tamarindo this weekend. It was beautiful of course. A lot of people have said bad things about Tamarindo I guess because it is one of the more developed/americanized beaches but it's still nice, i thought. I made a reservation for 2 beds in a dorm before we left. The thing about dorms is you never know who your roommates will be. Well i at least thought we'd be with other girls...um not quite. Our rommates were 2, 50+ old men! Its not that big of a deal but still a little weird. They were really nice though. One guy walked in while we were unpacking and he apologized bc he thought he had walked into the wrong room! The next morning, the lady who owned the place felt bad that we had to stay in that room and said she'd change us into a room with girls, well turns our there weren't any dorms with just girls so we still roomed with 2 guys, but they were closer to our age at least. There was a surf competition going on all weekend so we got some entertainment while laying on the beach. Even dogs were surfing! I took pictures and videos. I really wanted to take surf lessons, but I saw a few girls with bandages on their arms, legs and head. Dont know if it was caused from surfing but I still thought maybe that was an omen for me not to go surfing. Considering the danger I encountered while wake surfing in Pickwick, i figured I'd wait til the end of my trip or at least til my parents get here. That morning we were looking for the ticket office near where the bus had dropped us off to buy our return ticket in advance (it makes since to have the ticket office near the bus stop right?) Well not here, the ticket office was a few blocks away and while we were walking I saw a sign with 2 As and was like "there it is" (the bus company is called Alfaro) so we walked up to it and it turned out to be Alcoholics Anonymous! I took their number just in case this whole experience drove me to drink more.:) While laying on the beach we got several invitations to bars for that night. Sharky's had free drinks for ladies 9 to 11 and Aqua was having a surfing competition afterparty and they gave us wristbands for free cover where it was open bar from 8 to 12! So yes, we got to drink for free all night! I knew when to stop, so no I didn't need to go to AA the next day. Even better, I started the night with some fresh sushi! No more rice and beans for this girl!, well rice, yes, but beans no! So sun, surfers, sushi and free drinks= successful weekend! :)

P.S. For those who dont kow the unicorn story: Before I left my friend Amy said I'm like a unicorn and you just have to set me free, so as my going away present my friends gave me a bracelet with a unicorn, so that is why it is some of my pictures!

Aunt Jan on

Hi Jenny, I gave up FB for Lent but broke my Lental Fast to read your blog when Dan said you were in Tamarindo. When I was visiting Heather, we all went there. I loved it! The surfers, the sun, the free drinks for girls (and even old ladies like me) at the bars...the only thing I missed somehow was the sushi! We'll have to compare pictures when you get back! Heather and her friend, Kate, did rent surf boards. No broken bones, thank God, but not a whole lot of standing up on the surf board either.

Have fun, girl!
