Where I stayed
22.04.2010
In the ten degree morning, we rugged up well and pulled into a tyre dealer to inflate my tyres. Everything was cool and we were looking forward to another beautiful ride. We passed many wood carving businesses with gigantic statues of bears, deer, mermaids, and sailors. Other carvings too of course, but those were the main themes. The girth of some of the trees which had been cut down was phenomenal.
As we rode into Leggett, we saw this sign "Drive through tree". This was too interesting to miss. We rode down a gravel track to the biggest tree I've ever seen. Sure enough, there was a gaping hole cut into the base of the tree, big enough to drive a large car through. I was a bit freaky, but at least the tree was still alive. Of course we rode through it too, like all the other tourists.
Highway 1 panned out to the 101 after Leggett, and it was a fast ride to Crescent City. In total a ride of 357 kilometers today. There are quite a few Motels to choose from on the main highways in the tourist towns, and Crescent City is a harbour fishing town.

Being in a nice seaside town like Crescent City prompted a walk to the harbour, and a picture taking session.
