9.4.2010
A nice young man named Jordan (12 years of age) came over to Des while he was loading our bikes and started to ask him some questions. He has a 250cc Honda himself and was very interested in the Beemers. He reminded me a lot of our own grandson Jim, same strawberry blonde hair and friendly manner about him. I'm really missing my family, particularly my grandchildren, and at times like these, I just want to hop on a plane and fly home to my family and friends.

Jordan’s grandfather was with him and said they had raised a lot of money with their Christian based motorcycle organization called Sons of Thunder, by holding a huge dinner to raise funds, and they were going over to Tijuana to build a home for a family with the money.

Jordan enjoyed sitting on Des’s bike and helped place Des’s map inside the tank bag’s sleeve. I promised Jordan, I’d put a photo of him on our travel page. Lovely young man, we were pleased to meet him.

Coming into California from the East, we saw a lot of diverse scenery. Golden sand mountains, devoid of any growth, lying right up to the highway. Then boulder mountains, just rocks and huge boulders, with winding roads between. Palm trees were prevalent.

We saw enormous, fake plastic palm trees with mobile phone receivers hanging around the fronds, quite a neat way to disguise the ugly receivers.

Des and I came into San Diego on Highway 8 and turned into a Motel 6  quite early in the day. We were checked in by 12:30pm and decided to stay for three days to catch our breath from the long ride across southern USA.
