Elazig, Turkey
We put in over 500 kilometers today as we drove from Cappadocia, Nevsehir to Elazig, were we found a 'comfortable Service Station and settled down for the night. Some of the petrol stations are called Petrol Ofisi. The mosque loud speaker must have been next door because I awoke to the call to prayer at 5am very loudly and very clearly, but the Imam had a lovely voice, so it was very nice to listen to. I soon rolled over for a couple more hours sleep before we set off again for another long day's driving.

Just a few points:

I commented earlier about the feral cats and dogs which roam around getting into the rubbish, but I have not seen any evidence of rats or mice. Maybe the cats are doing their natural job.

To get a cup of coffee in Turkey, you ask for Nescafe; and to order lemonade, you ask for Sprite. Pretty good branding!

We have all had a dose of Turkey tummy while we were here, but we consider it 'building up our immunity'

There is a lot of road building going on in Turkey which will eventually be better for it's people and also the tourist but whilst we have to travel on the gravel roads they are a bit of a nuisance. Lou has already had a stone against his windscreen which has caused quite a bit of cracking which requires a new windscreen, which he will source when he gets time. It's on Lynn's side, so not a bother to the driver.

Another interesting point, while we were at the jewelry manufacturer yesterday, the owner explained the process of carving onyx. The part which struck me was that the powdery dust from the carving process is collected and blended with straw and fed to the chickens to increase their intake of calcium, to harden their egg shells.
