Helsinki is a quaint, small, capital city in a harbor. The open-air bus trip gives visitors a good look around and the opportunity to hop-on and hop-off any where along the route. We chose the Esplanade to hop off and were interested in the carpet washing facility.

We also had a great chat on the bus with Barbara and Estelle from Redruth, Cornwall and I promised I'd mention them on the pod. They were great girls, leading very active lives, spending all their money cruising while they still had their health.

All the transport signs here are written in Swedish and Finnish. Finland is also referred to as Suomi, and Helsinki as Helsingfors. Finland was once owned by Sweden, then by Russia. Now it's independent. It joined the EU in 1995 and adopted the Euro in 2002. Norway, Sweden and Denmark each have their own currency, which makes it a bit difficult for us travelers.

Did I mention the huge hares of Finland, one sauntered into our campsite one evening, at first we thought it was a dog. These hares have very long legs.

I went shopping on a hire bike at the Rastila CP, made me think of our rides along the beach with Jim. We have to remember to bring our bags when we go shopping in Europe and Scandinavia as the bags are not free.
