The push was on today to get to Alesund before 'nightfall' (that's between 12mn and 3am). We tend to stop for coffee, lunch and sight seeing quite a bit but I think that's why we're here, we're all loveing it. We had 3 ferries to catch today. There are so many fjorden coming into Norway the ferries just take us across the waterways, not from island to island. Each ferry had a toll as do many of the roads in Norway, that must be why they are so good. We also stopped to check out a meteor site which was now largely overgrown. Of interest to geologists more than tourists I suppose.

The houses in Denmark were largely yellow, in Sweden they're often dark red and in Norway many are yellow, many more red and some are black. The roofs have a carpet of soil and growth on them, for insulation we're assuming. The buildings are built of timber with stone or concrete foundations all with steep roofs for the snow. There are no garden taps (we think because of freezing). The roadside letterboxes all have a little 'house' build over them (also for snow). We see lots of road sign for moose and deer, luckily we haven't encountered any yet. It's law to drive with headlights on all the time in Scandinavia.
