Well as I said above, fun comes quickly when your traveling with a large group of friends. Itīs only been a couple days since my last entry, but since Kirsten is a travel writer for about.com, thus internet access is necessary. On Monday morning I woke up at 6:00am to start an intro course for 1 day of scuba diving with Mathias. We arenīt certified, but this showed us the basics of what to do, and then a professional guide went down with us on the 2 dives. They started us off in a pool, and I have to admit, that first jump underwater with lugs of heavy equipment strapped to me was a bit intimidating. But Iīve always been comfortable in water, so within minutes I was having fun. The cool part about the dive is that at 8:30am, we were joined on a boat to the ocean by Kirsten, Bryson, and Michelle, who were going on a certified dive as well (Mike slept in at the hotel). The entire trip was pretty much the same as those who were certified; we were on the same boat, did the same dives, got the same snacks, and some got that same feeling of nausea from the bumpy boat ride (fortunately I wasnīt one of them). The only difference was that we werenīt side by side underwater. The overall experience was great for a first time. Iīm sure there are clearer waters that have yet to be seen, but we were surrounded by plenty of bright purple and orange coral reefs, fishes of all shapes and colors surrounding us, a few crustaceans that would hide near their rocks, and some sea life that i donīt even know about. My instructor said one was a sea cucumber(???) I thought it was great, and plan of getting fully certified eventually.

The dive was over by 2:00pm, and after everyone returned and cleaned up, we went to another local restaurant to chow down on plenty of food since we were starving. Next on the agenda we hopped onto a bus to Jaco. Iīd heard various reactions to this town, with some people saying it was tons of fun with a great nightlife, others saying it was dirty and not worthwile stopping in. Either way we still had to travel north, so we figured weīd give it a try. Just like many other days, we arrived while it was pouring rain with no clue where to go or stay. Soon enough we settled on the first decent place we saw. Nothing too exciting happened that night, but we stopped by a cute restaurant with some drinks and great pizza, then called it a night. Mike thought there was a monster in our room...

Now we are finally in Liberia, probably our last stop in Costa Rica before we head on to Nicaragua. Today was mostly bus rides, but during our lunch Mike added some entertainment to the meal. In the center of the table there was a large tupperware container filled with insanely hot jalapenos, onions, and vinegar. Mike had mentioned that he liked that stuff, and while we already thought he was crazy to like it in the first place, someone mentioned that it would be impossible to consume the entire thing. Sure enough, this somehow turned into a bet where Mathias and Bryson offered to pay Mike $50 dollars if he could eat and drink the ENTIRE container. He quickly started doing it, while everyone else at the table cringed after only tasting a tiny speck of one of the peppers. It took about an hour at least, but eventually Mike got not only the attention of all the workers in the restaurant, but also an extra $50. Afterwards he quickly hurled it back up into a toilet.....
