Monument Valley: Tse' Bii' Ndzisgaii (Valley of the Rocks)
Monument Valley is an incredible stretch of free standing rock formations that wind through the Colorado Plateau along the Utah/Arizona border. Some of the sandstone buttes strain 1000 ft towards the sky, their fire red colour (from exposed iron oxide) punching out brilliantly against a bluebird sky.
We hadn't heard of Monument Valley until our good friend Paula – quite the adventuresome traveler herself – advised us to drive through on our way to the Grand Canyon. We were so glad we did! We took the winding 27km road through the various buttes and mesas (a piece of cake for the Beast given what he’s seen lately) and enjoyed incredible views of all angles of the enormous formations.
