When I got off the train in Hangzhou I spent over an hour waiting for a bus that never came and then spent 20 minutes in the dark and rain trying to hail a taxi. I was so relieved to get to the hostel, I'd been feeling a bit desolate
.
Hangzhou was a cool place, the main attraction is this huge lake. I spent 5 hours just walking around the lake taking photos and having a lot of photos taken of me. They have lots of gardens around the edge of it for the public and it is quite a big tourist attraction for the Chinese, especially as it is so close to Shanghai.
There was a sweet guy in my room who had never spoken English with a westerner before. I think he was fascinated so I dropped the boyfriend card pretty quickly. He gave me a book about Tai Chi that was in Chinese- I tried to explain that I couldn't read it but he said you'll be able to when you learn Chinese. When he left he left a note on my pillow that finished 'I like your golden hair, very beautiful.’
I met two Austrian girls who were the only other westerners in the hostel and they seemed pretty excited to see me. We went to the tea fields together one morning, they were up in the mountains and really beautiful. Hangzhou is famous for its tea all over China.
