We left Tham Keak at 7.30am and what should have been a 9 hour journey all the way to the islands was a 12 hour uncomfortable sweat box, with punctures, to only half way. After a few hours' sleep in Pakse we were up and off to try and actually make it to the islands.
We got a boat onto the largest island by noon, it was so quiet. They have only had 24 hour electricity since March so civilisation isn’t all that developed. There is also no ATM but I had come prepared with (almost) enough money. We rented out bikes but the moment we handed over the money and cycled off the sky opened and it spent the rest of the day raining. I made a pretty early exit the next day for Cambodia, unfortunately missing my friend Nick from home by a few hours. I did however leave him a present from my parents (a torch) in a hotel for him to pick up later that day. And thus began a nightmare-ish border crossing.
