Thorung Base Camp - 4,540mt. OMG!! We actually got here at about 3.30; again a very hard day. Must be insane! Ziv came and took my pack as I trudged like a snail up to the lodge. Yael is resting; B and Ziv are playing chess of course. Anna and Mark are here also and a new guy named Dan, from the UK. The terrain has changed dramatically again - at the beginning it was so lush that leeches built villages on the strength of our blood, then it became alpine; now, it's different even to this morning when there was a lot of low brush and bushes, and the mountainsides were a beautiful mix of browns, reds and greens with various tiny flowers growing out of the dry dirt and rocks.
Now as far as I can tell it's brown dirt and shale. It's hard to believe we're actually going over tomorrow! There's a few of us; a married couple from W.A., Chad and Sarah; Mark and Anna; Yael and Ziv; Dan and Brenden and I. We all sat around the heater at dinner and played a game - each told their name and then a story about a scar on their body. The plan is bed at 8.30, then up at 4am, leave at 5 if the weather permits. At 8.30 pm  we had to take a photo of B & Ziv's unfinished chess game so that it can be recommenced in Pokhara if we meet up again there. We have our own loo in our room and really snuggly eiderdowns - I guess in the winter you'd be in trouble if you had to suit up every time you wanted to go out to shoo shoo or coo coo.
