This weekend was an intensive at miecat, where I study experiential & creative arts therapy; and today, my birthday! My gift to myself - my first trek. Brenden, my youngest child at 14 yrs is coming too. We've trained (a bit) and packed (too much) and are raring to go.

Class finishes at 5. The plan is to dash home from Fitzroy to Narre Warren South, pick up B and the packs and meet some friends and family at the airport for a meal before flying out at midnight to Kathmandu, via Bangkok. Thai seems to be the cheapest option at this time of year to get to Nepal, and I've checked out every option, even hopping through India with Air Asia or Tiger.

One of my young colleagues, Claire is also on the flight to Bangkok, she is holidaying in Thailand with her posse of girls.

The trekking season around Annapurna starts on 1st October and ends 30th November; of course you can trek at other times but this period after monsoon (hot, wet, misty) and before winter (snow, freezing) is considered ideal. We'll just be a little early and hopefully won't find it difficult to get a bed at a lodge, or a clean squat loo.

Despite masses of research and printing off my favourite blogs, I think our packs are too heavy. I remember being told by a friend once that you shouldn't carry any more than 8-10kg......Hmmmmm.
