There are nearly 6000km between Venezuela and the Lake District of Chile -- about the same from Vancouver to Halifax I think. We had to catch 4 flights to make the trek. Only the first departed on time, though an unscheduled stop somewhere in Brazil meant that it arrived 2.5 hours late into Sao Paulo. And so it started. We missed our connection to Santiago, then missed our connection to Puerto Montt. At least there were frequent flights on our route, so we were only about 3 hours later than originally planned. The driving in Chile is thankfully more normal than in Venezuela. People actually seem to drive in their lanes and stop for red lights. We got to our amazing accommodations in Puerto Varas 36 hours after leaving Venezuela. Our room has a view of the Osorno Volcano which is like a mini Mt. Fuji. Hopefully the weather will be agreeable and we'll get some good photos!
Side note: we also did this trip without eating anything but soda crackers, in an attempt to make the trip more pleasant for our fellow travellers who had to share the same tiny airplane bathroom. After Jenn emptied her stomach before leaving Barinas, we decided it was best not to add any fuel to the fire. Thanks for the parting gift, Venezuela.
