We started our journey to the island in bad moods as we were well and truly shafted by the "porters" on Sanur beach who charged us 20,000rp (£1.50) to put our bags on the boat!! We didn't even ask them to! Anyway our moods lifted pretty quickly when we approached the island and saw the turquoise-blue water and lovely stretch of beach. In anticipation of our arrival, we saw about 15 guys waiting to pounce on a bag then hold it for ransom until the owner paid. We made sure our bags were firmly on our backs (and fronts) to avoid having to pay again, although it did make disembarking quite tricky! We were really looking forward to our stay here as we were told that there would be no hassle from "transport" dudes or anything, thank god!!
We got off to find we were in the gardens of a hotel and the guy had a really nice room for 100,000rp (£7.50) a night which we were pretty happy about given that it was midday and we were in searing heat.

So like the adventurers we are we set out to go exploring and to get some lunch. As soon as we turned out our driveway all we heard was "motorbike, yes?!" - aaarrgh we thought it was supposed to be peaceful here! There is just no escaping it. Anyway, it turns out we weren't very good adventurers that day and only lasted 15 mins before seeking refuge in the shade of a wee warung to get food. The rest of the day was spent just chilling out and Jen went for a wander. We were pretty tired from our early start to do anything more strenuous.

The next day we went on our snorkelling trip. We were taken to Mangrove Point first and we were given some bread to feed the fish. Hopefully we've got sone good photos from the underwater camera which we'll put up once we get it developed. Jen didn't really like being surrounded by all the fish so she swam away when Adam fed them. The current got pretty strong though and we were getting quite tired so we headed back to the boat to go to the next place. The next place was The Wall, named as such as there is a big drop-off that goes really deep. Given that Jen doesn't like deep water, she wasn't very keen on this and stayed well away from the edge. There were loads of really nice coral and colourful fish which was great. Jen spotted jellyfish though which put us both a bit on edge. We came up to sort our masks and discovered that it was absolutely pouring! To Jen's dismay the guy had driven the boat further away so she got into a bit of a panic, especially as all the fish were now heading towards the surface because of the rain. So she swam as fast as she could back to the boat. Adam wasn't far behind. So that was our snorkelling trip. It was good fun and we saw lots of lovely fish but a bit too deep for Jen. That night we had dinner in our hotel on the beachfront with a couple of cheeky wee cocktails.

On our last day we hired scooters and went exploring around the island. We were pretty slow at first and were getting overtaken by schoolgirls! The roads were in pretty bad condition so it was impossible to get up to a decent speed anyway. It was good fun on the scooters but after a couple of hours the novelty wore off as the roads are all pretty much inland and not very scenic. We were also getting fed up of all the school pupils holding out their hands for money and asking us for dollars! We suppose they just do what their parents do and are taught that all Westerners are cows that should be milked although we expected school children to be a bit different.

By then it was lunch time so we drove back to the hotel and had lunch at the wee warung next door. After lunch we decided that it was far too hot to go out again and we decided we really wanted to jump into a pool. The day before Jen spotted a fancy hotel that offered free pool use with any purchase. So we headed along there to spend the afternoon. It was great, the hotel had a lovely infinity pool that looked right over the sea. We enjoyed the views from there with our carrot cocktails! We took the scooters out for one more wee ride that evening before dinner.

And that was Nusa Lembongan. We had a really nice time just chilling out and enjoying the relative peace and quiet compared to the main island, although we now need to psyche ourselves up for our next destination, Kuta as it's supposed to be hard work...
