It was another great day in Nanxi! We began the morning with a breakfast of noodles, a boiled egg, and another delicious steamed roll. Soon after, we headed off to our classrooms at the Senior school to teach three Senior 1 classes each. The students were very surprised to enter Ms. Long's classroom and see a new seating arrangement. Ms. Long placed the desks in groups of four to fit her lesson plans for today. Mr. O will be placing his desks in groups of five for his next lesson. Not quite what the students are familiar with here. Mr. O taught his introduction lesson, and Ms. Long taught a lesson on "Healthy Eating". The American foods she showed her students that she likes to eat were not so healthy! They were very interested to learn that Americans eat foods from many different cultures.

After class, we headed back to our offices. Surprise once again! Another huge spider in Ms. Long's office. Although our offices had been sprayed the previous evening, it didn't seem to scare away the huge, creepy crawler! One of the women janitors came to Ms. Long's rescue and killed the spider like a champ! Mr. O stayed in his office to plan for his lessons on Friday, while Ms. Long took a tour with Mary to observe many different Senior 2 classes. She was able to sit in on several classes, including English, Chinese, Math, Politics, Art, Geography, and Chemistry. The students were very attentive as their teacher directed each class. Most English classes had two desks that were paired together. Other classes were placed in single desk rows. The English classes were taught mostly in Chinese, so the students could understand what the teacher was teaching them. English words and phrases could be heard throughout the lesson. All English classes today were doing a lesson on grammar. The lessons in the other classes were also similar to their other subject area teachers. The tour was very insightful and interesting to see.

After lunch, we headed back to our hotel for an afternoon of rest. Then, we headed back to school for dinner and evening activities. Ms. Long had told her students that if they saw her out on the courtyard, they should invite her to play basketball with them. One of the students took her up on her offer! After shooting around for a bit with the student, two other boys quickly joined in and began a two-on-two match! It was great! Students quickly gathered around the court with Mr. O to cheer Ms. Long on. It had been a long time since she picked up a basketball, but she made a few shots, including 3-pointers (all with a boy's basketball)! The students seemed to really enjoy watching the game. Fortunately, the boys had to go back to class just in time because Ms. Long definitely needed a time-out!

Later, we headed over with the Senior 1 teachers for singing practice. Mr. O quickly caught on to the melody and impressed several teachers. Ms. Long is still trying to learn the words to the song! She will definitely not win Chinese Idol. However, Mr. O has a good chance:) The different grade levels have all tried to get us to join their group. However, when Principal Jian invited us, we had to accept! So, we are officially part of Senior 1's group! The singing competition will be held later in May, so definitely stay tuned!  Tomorrow, we are back at the Middle School to teach Junior 3 classes!
