We awoke at 4:30 this morning to leave Ho Chi Minh before the traffic. Sheena had organized for the hotel to pack 5 star breakfast for us to take with us so the boys didn't miss their buffet too much. Although Keith still shed a tear at 9:30 when he realized there would be no more breakfasts at Caravelle.
We rolled out of the hotel at 5:20 ready to hit the stream of traffic like leaves in the wind. But thankfully the wind wasn’t too strong and we floated out of the city with no major dramas.
Although there was a lot of rain in Ho Chi Minh last night which left big puddles in the road. Lee was thankful for her mud guards (thanks Heidi) and rubbed it in to everyone else. Brenton had a good mud stain on his brand new shirt that had all the locals laughing but not to be outdone he being an engineer is going home to design some mud flaps out of a card board box tonight.
At our first food stop at the back of a servo, we were mesmerized by a pile of banana skins out the back of a nearby factory. The people in the factory were so nice that they brought us out a sample of their produce; THE YUMMIEST FRIED BANNANA CHIPS.
We rode on to our first planned destination Go Dau. Where Keith got the first flat of the trip. As we stopped for him to fix it the locals came up and poked him in the posterior. A cheeky sales technique which tickled Brenton’s fancy and he couldn’t resist their tasty delights, a custard pastry. Ie-Tehn had to have a little bit as well/
As it was still early in the day we decided to keep on going towards the border town and we made an emergency phonecall to Sheena to ask her whether we were better to cross over or stay the night in Vietnam. We decided to cross over and so now we are in Cambodia. In the Casino town of Bavet.
Lee and Amy did a recon to find a hotel, after looking at a few they found the one. It’s clean, has hot water, no bed bugs, sensual art above the beds, condoms in the mini bar and you can pay by the hour. All that aside it’s a good place to stay and we haven’t heard any strange noises yet.
We are having dinner at the Q bee café. The food was delicious. We can definitely recommend it for anyone coming through Bavet*. We will post the photos from today later. We intend to have an early night.
A good few turns on the wheel today and we are all still farting with confidence.
* This statement is subject to a 12 hour cooling off period in which time we reserve the right to retract any comments regarding the degree to which we enjoyed the food.
