Where I stayed
Ugh....some of you remember that was how I started my first e-mails from our motorhome adventure. Well, that is kind of how I felt when we finally found the Albany Lodge where we were staying last night. We needed a place in eastern Wyoming so we could drive into Colorado. So when I looked for a place that would take dogs and in a scenic area, I found this place on the Internet. Never trust the pictures on the Internet. I should have checked out trip advisor. We drove about 400 miles from Jackson Hole thru some beautiful areas at first and then into the windy, wide open plains. When we got to the scenic drive thru the Snowy Mountains, it was spectacular. We stopped and took a lot of pictures and headed on to our "lodge" for the night. It took a while to find the "town" of Albany, population 15! Our lodge must have employed all 15 people. Our cabin was a little less than we expected....pretty bad - old, creepy and had not been updated ever. There was a restaurant right across from our cabin. We were one of two couples in the dining room but there were a few grungy cowboys at the bar. We had chicken fried steak for diinner, Three Moose Wine and tried to sleep in a bed with a mattress that had not been replaced since the beginning of time. This is the first time during the trip that I thought the motorhome might have been better. The saving grace was being close to the Snowy Mountain range. We took a dribve up there this morning and hiked at 10,700 elevation and had a picnic on one of the many glacier lakes. It was worth coming to this part of Wyoming. But when we left, we decided not to go back to our cabin in Albany but headed to Laramie for our old standby - Best Western! We drove thru the plains where there was not a single tree in sight but there were houses all by theirselves in a wide open area. Makes you wonder who lives there. The Univ of Wyoming is in Laramie - a western town on the edge of the prairie. UW is the only 4 year school in the state. Don't know how many students there are but they have a big football stadium. Interesting town...not much going on but a definite western feel. All this travel makes you realize how many people live in this country in many different places. Their lives are all different. Our waiter at dinner had grown up here but never been to the Tetons, much less anywhere else. When you live in L A or NY, you think it is all about you but this is a big country with lots of different people.
On to Colorado tomorrow after good night's sleep at the Best Western.

Sorry we didn't tell you about Laramie! Wyoming has little to nothing--oh, well. You are on an adventure--and that includes lots of things!
See you when we return from the United Kingdom--
but at least you did not have to clean the toilet like the motorhome. The pictures are awesome and the dogs look to be having a blast
Oh, well, as the saying goes, "into each life some louzy overnight hotels/motels must fall"!! But, the photos are spectacular of the Snowy Mountains and Jene is still smiling!!
