This has been a week of miracles...

First, MY country has elected Barack Obama as the first African-American president of the USA.  It's about time we added some color to the White House.  And thank you to those of you who have shared their experience of the evening with me :)

Second, my pictures have been recovered from my flash drive.  The last few internet cafes I've been to I plugged in the drive just to check, and amazingly on one computer they showed up just fine.  So I bought a blank DVD and copied them just to be safe.  WOOHOO!!!!

So here are a few pics from Dambulla and Sigiriya that you missed from the last blog entry...

Dambulla Rock Cave Temple...

Sigiriya Rock Top Temple...

I am now in Anuradhapura.  I know, it took me a few days to learn how to say it too!!  This is the final stop on the ancient cities portion of my Sri Lanka trip, which is a fabulous thing because if I see one more dagoba I think I'm going to puke.

Once again, the sites are way too spread out to do on foot and a bit too spread out for me and my lazy butt to do by bicycle.  So I hired a tuk-tuk to take me around to visit them.  There were about 15 different sites, but don't worry, I'm only going to explain a few of them.

The Samadhi Buddha is supposedly Sri Lanka's finest Buddha statue, built in the 4th Century.

Ruvanelisaya Dagoba is just like any other dagoba but with hundreds of elephants surrounding the bottom.

Sri Maha Bodhi is THE sacred bodhi tree that has grown from a cutting of the actual tree under which the Buddha attained enlightenment.  It is the oldest historically authenticated tree in the world.

Tomorrow I'm off to the south, back to the beach for some diving...finally!!!

peace,
Jen

Your pictures are great!
It has been crazy living in Hyde Park. Security and the media are everywhere. My neighbor 'Mr President' lives down the street. My condo has increased in value. You can't go out your door without someone sticking a microphone in your face. I am lovin' it.
