Cheers everyone!

So I took the long bus trip from Galle to Unawatuna.  It was a ten minute trip...so exhausting!  This is a small, mellow town, probably the most popular beach town in the south.  The beach is absolutely incredible.   I actually spent a good part of my first day sitting on the beach, which is so not me.   Well, I was in the shade.

Dozens of vendors walk the beach trying to sell their handicrafts, sarongs, fruit, etc.  I started talking to a fruit vendor, as I was eating my pineapple lunch, and he was telling me about how he lost his wife, two out of his three children, parents, and one brother in the tsunami.  Other than most of his family he also lost his restaurant on the beach.  Now he sells fruit. I was suppossed to go diving this morning.  It stormed all night and in the morning the ocean was still very rough so the dive shop cancelled diving for the day.  I'm not having any luck with the diving on this trip :(

Once the weather started to clear up I walked to the western end of the beach where on top of a hill is a dagoba or stupa.  The dagoba wasn't the highlight of the short hike, but the views definitely were.

Tomorrow I think I'm taking off inland towards the hill country.  I was considering continuing along the coast to a couple more towns that seem somewhat interesting, but seeing as I only have one month in Sri Lanka, I don't have too much time to just wander.

I hope you are well.

peace,
Jen
