Hello Loved Ones!
Awesome day today, & yesterday....with tears in our eyes we kissed & patted our Mustang (No, we really did) goodbye and picked up the Camry for the long haul. It's a good car and has a free GPS; she's only tried to lead us up the garden path once - the first time we trusted her to use her, mind you - but we ignored her anyway so we safely arrived at The View in Monument Valley tonight about 9 pm. It's now 10.44. So yesterday we left Vegas at almost midday to drive to Page, Arizona. This meant crossing the state line into Arizona and Utah 3 or 4 times each. The sun goes down early here and even when there's still some light sky in the west, it's almost pitch black driving towards east.
So we had about 5 hours of daylight, and ooh'd & aah'd all the way at the changing scenery and emerging mountains and snow.

Unfortunately Viv has hives or the pox or leprosy; I believe all of these and more; and felt tired & itchy most of the day. She has special cream & drugs from Walgreens ( a pharmacy - you can get cigarettes, alcohol, coffee & donuts there too. And clothes.)
By the time we got to Page and found our lodging, Lake Powell Resort, it was dark and we couldn't see how gorgeous it was until this morning, when we woke up and opened the curtain on the lake itself!!!
Despite it being only about 5 c we dressed immediately & went for a walk.
Whilst dressing I looked in the mirror; horrified cries (similiar to those heard from Viv 2 days ago) could be heard "Don't look at me I'm HIDEOUS!!!!" I now have the pox as well.
This bodes ill for our plans for New Orleans. My sons will know this means drinking tea.
In desperate hope I asked the girl in the gift shop if there were such things as mossies in the US, in winter, when it's below freezing. I forgot to mention there was snow everywhere as we got close to Page?
Yeah she sort of snorted in derision but politely tried to cover it with a little cough; no, no mossies.
We can't figure it out.....we thought maybe an allergy to the dreadful margarita mix in Vegas, but that was 3 days ago now; maybe powdered egg? The coffee, or what passes for coffee?
In any case as you can see from the last few paragraphs our strange lumps are taking over our lives.
Back to today. We packed up, left the gorgeous down pillows at Page and headed on to Antelope Point Marina to hop into our hired kayaks

Off we went, me a reasonable paddler and Viv, who's never rowed/paddled before.
I knew she was knackered so when I pulled ahead a bit and she was a way over the other side and stationary, I waited for 10 minutes or so and then when she didn't reply to my cooee, I paddled on. And on, and on, turning left as directed at the bouey - pronounced boo-ey here - until I reached the very end of Antelope Canyon and hit rock under the kayak. Can't describe what it was like; as I paddled the canyon got narrower and the sides higher - it was magnificent. It was like drifting through a kaleidoscope, because the slightest rock pattern close to the water was of course reflected, and I was surrounded by patterns. Some of the time it was profoundly silent; I met no-one else once I entered Antelope. I judged that I had been gone about 2 hours which gave me an hour to paddle back to the Marina before they came looking for me at 4pm.
As I neared the Marina I saw in the distance the boat come out, and as it came closer I could make out Viv there sitting on the front wrapped in towels.....she'd gone in the drink right at the point of getting out of the kayak about half an hour after I'd left her, and I was 15 minutes past the hour. As in, late.....I had the keys to the car, so Viv hadn't been able to get dry clothes out.

I showed only deep regret and concern; no amusement at all.

Her true affection for me must shine through though, because after we left we went to Wal-Mart (yay!!!! I video'd it - it's AMAZING!!) and after purchasing a pair of jeans - Lee Riders - for $14, we went to the Subway there for tea.

Viv paid for hers and took all our shopping back to the car, whilst I waited to pay for mine. When the guy finally noticed me still standing there, he said: "Oh, I think I charged your g.....um.....partner for yours, was that ok?" to which I replied, Oh that's fine, great in fact!
ROTFLMFAO!!!
When I told Viv she wanted to go back in there and give him a big tonguey to prove her un-gayness. We do make a charming couple though....stacks of people have thought we are gay - must be the tatts....omg I look like someone's stereotype!!!!

So we've driven to Monument Valley, seen none of the land yet except these massive dark shapes just visible against the night sky, which is amazing, with an upside-down saucepan! Yes, yes I know it's a belt.

All our wet clothes are hung up to dry along with my backpack which was in a 'Drybag' and I say dry loosely. Luckily I cannot put my camera down, I carry it all the time so it was looped through one of the belts on my lifejacket and survived. Viv wisely refused to bring hers in case she fell in.
BTW you may have guessed by the volume of writing that this internet is free....still no memory card slot though, sorry! I'm itching to put some pics up, and some video.
My shoulders are sore. I have a blister on my thumb. My arms are sore....in fact, my whole upper body is aching already; I must retire to my bed & book. I've finished Girl With A Pearl Earring and have borrowed Kingdom of Fear from Viv.

  Ni-night peeps! Love you all....Peace.
