On arriving in Phuket at 3.00 knowing we would miss the ferry to phi phi we planned to stay in Phuket town for one night and get the 8.30 ferry to phi phi the next day. We found phuket town strangely dead with no real centre we had an early night as we had been traveling from hong kong all day

We hopped on board the ferry at 8.30 , the sun was already pounding down , we took our seats on the top deck right at the front of the boat which we thought would be perfect , as we pulled away a gentle breeze swept passed us and we commented how nice it was , fast forward 2 minutes and we look like pugs in a wind tunnel . the breeze had picked up some what and the sea spray was coming in thick and fast , we quickly scurried to the back of the boat to take refuge.

We arrived on phi phi and took a short water taxi ride to our resort on long Beach , Phi Phi pearl paradise , now i know that sounds a bit fancy for a couple of backpackers but this leg of journey was always meant to be a bit indulgent before 3 months of eating from cans and camper vans. we caught the taxi boat with another English couple , the lady gave great comfort to jenny as she had a huge backpack just for a two week holiday!! she felt alot better after this .......

The resort was beautiful , set on a gorgeous white beach , the room was also lovely and so we set about milling around for three days straight our hard days consisted of snorkeling , sunbathing , eating and sleeping. The hardest decision was should i have the tuna or chicken sandwich for lunch ???

On our first night however we did decide to take a walk into Phi Phi town ................ did i say walk i meant hike. There are no roads on phi phi so we had to trek over coves that included portions of jungle. We made it to the town which has been adopted to the tourists. To jenny's delight the shopping was really good and she managed to acquire a few more items of clothing and jewelery. After the trek back it was showers all round because the temperature does not dip below thirty even at night

The snorkeling Phi Phi is excellent , so excellent i managed to scorch my back chasing fish all day .By day three jenny was turning a sickening mahogany colour as i was a blotchy pink. On day four we took a long boat cruise islands . Firstly Bamboo Island was a nature reserve with a fantastic beach of pure white sand a still turquoise waters. Secondly we docked at mosquito island for some amazing snorkeling amongst a large reef. Next it was off to monkey island to feed some monkeys and to wrap the day off we visited phi phi lei , this was where the file "the beach" was filmed ,it had become a bit of a tourist trap but beautiful non the less. On the way back we watch the sunset over the ocean .

All in all Phi Phi was an amazing island with beaches and backdrops you read about visiting although tourism has hiked the prices up I would definitely recommend Phi Phi over phuket. Although we are only a week into our Thailand trip , Phi Phi is somewhere we would return someday.
