Where I stayed
We arrived in Salzburg and went to check out the town. Salzburg's downtown is pretty small, so it was quick to walk everywhere (and we didn't get lost! - too much). We went to the Residenz - the Archbishop's Palace and saw decorated rooms from the 18th and 19th century. There was also an art gallery with an exhibition about the Alps (they had a map of the Alps viewed from the North that showed all the mountains - including places we're going to visit!) and also a collection of historic paintings. Then we walked through the gardens at Schloss Mirabell and then up a big, steep hill (Kapuzingerberg) to get a great view of Salzburg and the mountains around it. It started to rain, so we headed home, but it was a great first day there.
