Marketa met us at the airport and took us for a evening tour of Prague Castle. There was a beautiful view of the town and not many people in the castle (unlike in the daytime!). It was amazing. The next day we went back to the castle and toured the buildings. Parts of them are from the 1300 - 1400 's and are really beautiful. We walked through the "deer moat" around the castle - now a park - and down into the town. The Charles Bridge is a pedestrian bridge and the centre of the "touristy" area of town. We walked across it and saw lots of market stalls, caricaturists etc there. We met Marketa in the old town square beside the famous Astronomical Clock and went for dinner at a very nice vegetarian restaurant. (I had Goulash with "fake beef" - yummy. Andrew had lasagna). We tried some Czech beer, including a plum one.
The next day we braved the public transit system (one bus and 2 trams!) to get downtown. We took a funicular up to the top of Petrin Hill to see some pretty views, then walked down through the park. We walked around the Mala Strana, across the bridge again and then went on a walking tour of the old town and the Jewish Quarter. We went for dinner at Cafe Slavia with a great view of the river. When we came out of the restaurant it had just started to rain and by the time we got "home" it had turned into a huge rainstorm! We sat and watched the lightning for a bit - it was pretty cool. Over all - Prague is a great place to visit!
