The ms Oosterdam docked back in Seattle early this morning. After sorting out the mess HAL made of our disembarkation paperwork, we left the ship. Rose needed to head straight for the airport from the port terminal to catch her flight to New York. We headed over to the luggage bay to help her with her bags. In the process of locating hers, we also found one of Danita's which should have been sent "luggage direct" from the ship to the airport and checked through to Louisville. One more glitch in the road home!
Once Rose, and all the luggage, was on the way to the airport via shuttle, Danita and Jenny headed for a taxi and Pioneer Square in downtown Seattle. Their flight wasn't until later that afternoon and they are never ones to waste time in an airport when there are sights to see and shopping to do! The taxi driver was a bit disgruntled not to have an airport fare and made a point of saying he was losing an opportunity for more money. His tip reflected his dissatisfaction.
We are blessed with sunshine again! Beautiful clear skies and a cool breeze. Pioneer Square is a delighful little park on the site of the original settlement of Seattle. There are a lot of sights to see in the area: gorgeous stonework, quirky little stores, and Seattle's Underground. The Underground tour takes about an hour and a half and includes an introduction to the history of Seattle (told by a charming and very funny man) and an underground walking tour of what used to be the street level of the city. Who knew that the first floors of many buildings, along with the sidewalks and streets, were under our feet as we walked the streets this morning? If you are a history buff and can manage a few flights of stairs, you'll enjoy the tour.
A day or two in Seattle has not been enough. A week would have better. Danita even had to have one last bowl of clam chowder form Ivar's in the airport food court.
