Today we returned from our trip to the Colca Canyon. We spent yesterday on the a bus touring through the Parque Nacional enjoying the sights of volcanoes, vicunas, llamas, and alpacas and chewing coca leaves to ease the effects of high altitude. Along the way we stopped at several small villages to look at handcrafted alpaca goods as well as meeting with some of the villagers. We also crossed over a pass of 4800m before entering the town of Chivay. We spent the rest of the day walking around town and visiting some of the local markets. During the evening, we went out to dinner and enjoyed a Peruvian folk band.

We woke up at 6:00am and traveled to the Colca Canyon (the 2nd deepest canyon in the world). We continued to make some stops through the villages we passed. We also had the opportunity to view many Inca and pre-Inca ruins and developments. We arrived at the Condor pass at around 8:30am. We took a short hike along the rim of the canyon and saw many Andean condors flying about.

Tomorrow we are headed to Puno on the border of Lake Titicaca.

Another opportunity
Excellent! More places to look up on the internet. Whenever you mention a specific place or activity I Google it and find wonderful pictures. These may not be exactly what you're seeing but it gives me a good idea of the sights. It's a virtual holiday experience. This area looks to be pretty dry and arid. I'll find out as I do my search. Wishing you continued happiness, safety, and adventure (within reason).
