I arrived in Cairnes absolutely exhausted due to the combination of alcohol abuse, lack of sleep and minor jet lag. Sarah let me know where she was staying and so i headed for there when i arrived. 2 lads who i met in Laos, Rob and Guy, also co-incidently arrived on the 14th so they were both waiting for me in the hostel bar with a cold beer - not having the usual appeal though, although it was quickly drunk.

We soon headed into town to meet the girls (Nic whom i met in Vietnam was also in Cairnes) and met them both in a 18-30's themed bar making us all feel extremely old! A few light get-to-know-you beers and we headed home for well earned sleep.

The following day we explored Cairnes. During the 15 minutes that that took we had time to look into various forms of getting back down to Sydney over the coming 6 weeks to arrive for Xmas and New Years. We choose, to use the Oz Experience. Actually, that was really the only choice on offer besides buying a car or travelling with a pensioners type of coach. None of us really wanted to use this bus and, we would definately not have used the tour company PETER PANS to book our tickets. They are absolutely rubbish, customer service are 2 words that do NOT go next to eachother in Peter Pans vocabulary at all. We should have realised from the start when the woman tried to fob us off to stay in various locations down the coast for 4 or 5 days at a time where the village we'd have been staying at consisted of a petrol station, a bar and 2 overly priced hotels and that's IT! She hated sarah who argued that because most people did, it didn't mean that we were going to follow suit!

Anyway, back to Cairnes, hot (mid 30's) but the town of Cairnes wasn't up to much at all. Very traveller orientated and you hear the english accent wherever you go. Having said that, we did have a laugh here and met some cool people here but i reckon it's only worth a 3 day maximum stay here. We paid over the odds for our trip to the barrier reef which, in my opinion didn't even compare to the diving i did in Asia.

There really isn't much to say about Cairnes apart from it was our starting point to travel down the coast, and that's about it.
