Where I stayed
Villa Margherita, Levanto
After a final wine tasting in Barolo we headed off to the much admired Cinque Terre. However, the torrential rain and incredible thunder and lightning made the journey more than a little hair raising especially when, in almost zero visibility, cars were still passing us at over 140km/hr. Our accomodation was a large downstairs apartment at Villa Margherita in the seaside town of Levanto.
The rain meant that the steeper coastal parts of the track at the Levanto end were closed to walkers so we took the train to Rio Maggiore and walked the short and mostly covered walkway to Manarola before heading uphill through the small local vineyards during harvest time and descending into Corniglia. We certainly covered the most beautiful towns and gained the most spectacular views from this higher section of the track. A very warm and wonderful day!
