Where I stayed
We spent the day in Cairo before taking the night train to Aswan:
Jan 7th
Sites: Museum, Citadel, Coptic Church, Synagogue, Bazaar
Dinner: On the train to Aswan
Jan 8th Aswan
Sites: Elephantine Island, High Dam, Philea Temple, Unfinished Obelisk,
Hotel: Ramses Hotel
Lunch: Abeer
Dinner: Floating Restaurant
Jan 9th
Sites: Abu Simbel and the Nubian Museum. (The Nubian Museum is new and very modern. It was a pleasure after the jumble of stuff in the Athens and Cairo museums to see a well organized exhibit).
Dinner: Buffet on the MV Crocodillo
Wine: Cabernet Sauvignon in our State Room
Jan 10th--Stuck in Aswan
Sites: Kirtcher's Island, tomb of the Nobles
Dinner: MV Crocodillo
Wine: An absolutely undrinkable Pinot Blanc 2005 Obelisk
At the Tomb of the Nobles we met a group of children, all boys. These kids were fantastic. All they wanted was for us to take their picture. They loved seeing themselves on the digital cameras. We spent nearly an hour teaching and learning how to count to 10 in at least five languages as we descended the hill. It was refreshing to meet kids who were interested in you and not your money.
