We left Yellowstone via the Cooke City entrance and tried to make our way to Red Lodge Montana via the Beartooth Highway. Unfortunately, the highway was blocked by a landslide so we drove the Chief Joseph Highway, pictured above. The Chief Joseph Highway was a real treat, since we'd never driven it before.

We stopped in Red Lodge to visit Jeff's geologic field camp at Yellowstone Bighorn Research Association (YBRA). The camp was closed, but the Dutchers', who live at the base of Mount Maurice, loaned us a key so we did get the opportunity to sample the expansive view of the Palisades from the Fanshawe Lodge Porch.

We will always remember the generous hospitality the Ducthers' showed us.

We stayed in Red Lodge and enjoyed a dinner at a local pizza place.
