Today we went on the sky rail heading to Kuranda a rainforest town. We started our joirney at 13:00 after an easy start with some nice breakfast.
After buying the tickets (compare to Austria) we went on our first trip to Red peak (highest point) which took us approx.10 min. The views were very nice and we could see the whole bay from the cabin, if you look at the pictures you can even see a cruise ship but more about that later.
We decided not to stop at the stations on our way to Kuranda but on our way back and 15 min later we arrived at Barron falls...see pictures..
The next stop was Kuranda which was bigger than we expected it to be, there were streets as in a normal village the only difference was that it was based in the middle of the rainforest. There is a beautiful old railway station but unfortunately we could not go back by the train as it was broken due to a landslide which derailed the train in early April! We still had a little look around the station...see pictures ..
Having a walk around in Kuranda we had a walk through the market and and the town center after seeing some friendlier aboriginals :) we had a meal and went on our way back.
Stopping at the 2 stations we made some pictures, enjoyed the views and saw some pretty big spiders.
Info about the Sky rail:
- 7.5 kilometers long
- 114 cabins
- 18 kilometers and hour
- Highest station is at 545 meters above sea level
Mum - if our experience at Southport all those years ago on the ski-lift ride was anything to go by this is defiantly not a trip for you! Do you remember? It was so funny now i think back :)
This is it for know cheers Jeff and Lynds
Ow...the cruise-ship:
We found out later on the news it had to stop due to a few engine problems :-)
