Today we started our journey to Laos. At noon, we met up with the Stray tour again and hopped in to a luxury minibuses to head to Chiang Khong, which is right across the Mekong River from Laos. On the way, we stopped at Chiang Rai and saw a very unique wat which has been built in the last couple years. It was unlike any that we had seen before. It is a wealthy painter's interpretation of Buddhism.
Around 6 pm, we arrived in Chiang Khong, which is a one street town and settled into our guesthouse. The owner, Charlie, made us an awesome potato soup as a welcome. It was so delicious and packed with vegetables. That has been a great thing about Thailand so far - the amount of vegetables in every dish. We then headed out for dinner and enjoyed our last Thai meal for the next couple weeks.

That Wat is like something out of C.S. Lewis...or Blue River! Makes me think of ice and snow. Very beautiful
