Coming into La Paz there was only one option to get into our hostel - squeeze 6 tourists, one driver AND our massive backpacks into one car! This was because there was a protest going on where groups of workers were setting off explosives and blocking off roads.

We stayed at The Adventure Brewery Hostel. Jeff loved it, free beers every day! It had fantastic views of the city from the 4th floor bar, although being at altitude the 4 floor 'hike' took our breath away every time.

La Paz is an interesting city, situated in a valley with residences around which twinkle like a Christmas Tree at night. Aw. People in the streets sell all kinds of things. Some of the markets are weird because some of the goods are more expensive than in the shops (they say because the shops have the fake ones... riiiiight) and there is a Witches Market where you can address all your dried plant and llama foetus needs. The traditional dress of the ladies of Bolivia are cool to look at, they wear shimmying skirts and whacky impractical bowlers hats.

Jeff did the famous Death Road bike ride, aptly named due to the number of fatalities that have happened over the years. Before they opened a new road for the main traffic it was estimated that 200 to 300 travellers were killed annually on the stretch of road which is less than 80kms long. There are extreme dropoffs of at least 600 meters and most of the road no wider than 3.2 metres. It starts at 4,600 metres and ends in the rainforest (1200 metres).
