So this is really just a practice travelpod for next summer. We won't have much time to write on an eight day trip, but we'll try to get in the habit of posting a little something here and there, figuring out how to post pictures, etc. so we are ready next year for the big trip.

I'm currently staying up all night in order to try to reduce my jetlag once I arrive tomorrow. I've read a rule of thumb is that it takes one day to recover for each hour of time difference. (This rule is clearly stupid, since it doesn't take a day to recover when you go from New York to Chicago, but whatever.) Japan is 13 hours ahead of New York, so if this rule were true, it would take me 13 days to recover from this trip (or maybe 11, since Japan is also 11 hours behind New York in terms of time of day, right? I don't think you're body actually knows what day it is. If you travel one hour backwards across the international dateline, it doesn't take 23 hours to recover, right?).

In any case, I don't have 11 or 13 days to recover, since I'm only there eight days, so tonight I'm keeping myself busy and staying awake, because everyone in Japan is awake. Hopefully I'll sleep the first part of my flight, while it's nighttime in Japan. And if it doesn't work and I'm tired when I get there? Hope they have Five Hour Energy in Japan I guess. I'll let you know how it turns out.
