Where I stayed
Such is the pace here in Dahab. It is a very... sticky place where most find themselves staying longer than expected. This Bedouin fishing village was discovered decades ago by SCUBA divers and hippies; the former still present in wetsuited droves, the latter only in the pervasive laziness that seems to affect all visitors.
Tomorrow, we will climb Mt. Sinai, where Moses received the Ten Commandments and visit St. Katherine's monastery, founded around 330 C.E. near the site of the Burning Bush. Right now, though, this tranquil and effortless setting seems worlds away from the 3750 Steps of Repentance that we will take up the mountain tomorrow.
And mount Sinai was altogether on a smoke, because the LORD descended upon it in fire: and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly. And when the voice of the trumpet sounded long, and waxed louder and louder, Moses spake, and God answered him by a voice. And the LORD came down upon mount Sinai, on the top of the mount: and the LORD called Moses up to the top of the mount; and Moses went up. (Exodus 19:18-20)
...And so did we. It was quite a long slog, but we made it to the top in time to see the sun set. We could have used that smoking furnace, though - it was cold up there!
