We went to Salzburg, Austria today. Salzburg is most noted for being the birthplace and early adult residence of Mozart. It is a scenic, touristy city, especially at this time of year. We walked past the omnipresent McDonald's after we got off the bus. We toyed with the idea of renting bikes, but decided to walk instead. We spent a few hours walking through the streets of the old town, looking into chocolate stores and cafes (everything centers around food) and then took a gondola-tram to the Hohensalzburg, the city’s medieval castle. We took a tour through the castle and then returned to banks of the river. Joel decided he suddenly needed to see where the Sound of Music took place, which is definitely a popular destination but was a little late in coming since it was nearing 4:00 and we had a train at 5:00. He seemed like he knew where we were going, and we got on the right bus but he got off at an arbitrary stop so we didn’t make it in time and boarded the train back to Munich only minutes before it left.
