It was a short trip to Great Keppel Island, but we got our first taster for sailing - not that I have too much to show for the 4 days sailing!  I got to know lots of the sailing jargon and got the hang of following the Captain's instructions, but I must admit it consisted mainly of pulling various ropes at certain times.  It was nice to muck in though, and was physical work at times, working in rainy and choppy conditions at times.

But our first sail was in beautiful sunshine and calm seas, getting in amongst the Keppel Islands, stopping at the largest of the 18 islands.  Frank, Dasha and I had to row the rest of the way on a small dinghy, which proved slow work getting over the waves to shore!  But eventually we reached the sandy beach, tied up the boat and got to exploring the island on foot.  Dasha and I strolled along the gorgeous, sandy beach, up and over a headland, then along another near-deserted beach.  We took plenty of photos out to the beautiful, clear waters on a perfect, sunny day.  After retracing our footsteps in the sand, Dasha joined Frank for a swim while I lazed on the beach to finish off a great day.

We made our way back to the yacht, and back on board we enjoyed dinner, sunset and chatting to our fellow crew members.

Rations & Cooking Duties

From what I remember of the food we ate on our sailing trip, breakfast was normally muesli or pancakes on the last day (I recall John not being impressed by my pancakes, and feeling pissed-off at his ungratefulness!); lunches consisted of noodles or something similarly simple (I just about finished cooking lunch on one occasion while we were sailing, but didn't manage to serve it up as I had to duck upstairs to throw-up!  That pretty much let me off cooking duties thereon while we were sailing!); while dinners were a variety of fairly tasty meals.  Memory doesn't serve me too well, but there was definitely a carrot cake too!
