Where I stayed
..I don't know why I called this entry it's a long way to Tipperary since we never went to Tipperary and don't intend to.I just like the song,
..It is 6 a.m. On Tuesday morning and we had a wonderful day yesterday. We started out with a full breakfast at Friars Lodge. I had fish for breakfast for the first time. They could not have given us any more food it was excellent. At 9am we went on a tour of the medieval town of Kinsale. Our tour guide was Don Maloney. He took us on a tour of the history in Kinsale from the medieval walled town to the sinking of the Lusitania. He explained how Kinsale.became one of the most important ports .with its perfect Harbor and extraordinary fortifications following the discovery of the New World
After Don's tour we took a 10 minute bus ride to Fort Charles. This fort was built in the 1700's and has a long history of being held by the British. The fort is in ruins now because the English burnt it to the ground when they saw a rebellion beginning to stir with the Irish people wanting their independence from England back in the early 1900s. The guide told us the history of the fort as well as reflected on what life was like for the soldier vs the officer. The fort was built in the most magnificent setting. We spent about 2 hours at the fort. We had our choice to walk back to Kinsale or take the bus. Being the explorers we are,. Dave and I decided to take the mile and a half walk back to Kinsale. It was the most beautiful walk along the harbor.
I have to mention that it did get up to 65 degrees yesterday in Kinsale and the skies were sunny and blue the perfect day In Ireland.
After we completed our walk we had some lunch in town and did some shopping. We had dinner at a top scale restaurant called Fishy Fishy. This restaurant was run by one of the top chefs in Ireland and he has his own TV show like Paula Deen.
Tomorrow we leave Kensale and travel to the Dingle Peninsula we stop at a farm and watch sheep shearing and sheep round up.Kinsale is an absolutely beautiful harbour town. Dave and I would love to bring all our family and friends. We want to come back here. Lori would absolutely love the shopping here. We bought Tye Daniel a beautiful pair of baby woolen booties.
We are so happy to be able to share this blog with you. We appreciate all the comments back and we miss you all very much love Dave and Jean.
