We took a shuttle from Playa Santa Teresa to Playa Samara, which took less time than the 7 hours the bus would have taken. We checked into our hotel Entre Dos Aguas which has wonderful tropical grounds. A couple of mango trees welcome you along with their great dane. They have a great swimming pool and a common area with hammocks to chill out in. The fridge with various beers, soft drinks, and water is self serve and is on the honor system. They have a pot of Costa Rican coffee and tea brewing all day for the guests. The room includes breakfast. They make fresh muesli (granola) each evening for breakfast the next day. It is served with yogurt and fresh fruit of watermelon, pineapple, and papaya. So that is how we started our 3 days here.
Samara is a great village. There is a police presence in town, which I have not seen in the other locations we have been in. The police are friendly and are watching out for your safety. The morning we left Samara, at 0410 in the am, the police were out in the street making sure there were no problems while we all boarding the bus.
We ate a couple times at the Sheriff's restaurant on the beach. They served yummy grilled fish, which I believe was marlin. I had mine with rice and black beans, with salad and fried plantain.
Fred and I had beach time for the first couple of days. Enjoyed frolicking in the waves. The last day we did a little souvenir shopping. We ended our day jumping in the swimming pool at the hotel and listened to the monkeys.
(As I am writing this from home now, I will end the blog here. We did take the early, EARLY bus ride of about 5 hours back to Alajuela so we could spend the last night within easy reach of the airport. We had a 6:25 flight on 3/31/11 back to the states. We stayed in a new hostel in Alajuela. We walked to the Plaza Central, sat on a park bench, and people watched while the bells of the cathedral tolled. I bought more cacahuates con limon to take home with me. These are a treat while I watch the St Louis Cardinal baseball games. Our last part of our vacation, was visiting with Fred's brother, Jim and wife, Paula in Denver, Colorado. Jim treated us to opening day at the Rockies. Thanks Jim!!! The Diamondbacks beat us by one point on a wild pitch, but a great time was had by all. Fred and I are back home now. To our delight we found that our garden greens had grown enough while we were on vacation, to have a salad for dinner. - Well, back to work and until next time, we hope you enjoyed our Costa Rican vacation blog!)
