My alarm was set for 4.30am as I was getting behind on my blogs and I wanted to try and nail a couple before checking out of my hotel and heading to the airport to meet up with my girls. Unfortunately, I only managed to get one done.

I checked out and caught the free hotel shuttle bus to Terminal 5 at Los Angeles International Airport. I had checked the Virgin Australia website the night before to ensure I was meeting Wendy and Danielle at the right terminal given the size of LAX. They were due in at 7.30am and the Virgin website told me the flight was running to time.

My shuttle bus had me at Terminal 5 at 7.40am and I waited, camera at the ready, for them to appear through the doors. The  arrivals board indicated they had landed but I still hadn't seen them at 8.10am. In fact I hadn't seen anyone from Brisbane come through. The next thing a lady starts putting a tape up across the door they should have been coming through. This clearly wasn't a good sign.

I approached the lady and asked her where the Virgin Australia flight, arriving from Brisbane, was. She told me they no longer arrived at Terminal 5 and haven't done so for 3 weeks. Apparently, they now arrive at the Tom Bradley International Terminal which as two terminals away.

NOTICE TO VIRGIN AUSTRALIA: You are a bunch of tossers !!! Update your feckin website !

There were 4 other people in the same boat. I started making my way, as quickly as I could carrying all my gear, to the correct terminal, worried that my girls would be in a panic. I was three quarters of the way there and there I see a grumpy looking Wendy and Danielle heading towards me. We had our big reunion hugs and kisses followed by some moaning on both our parts about how we missed our big arrival moment. We were both pretty pissed. Still, we were now back together as a family so our grizzles soon subsided.

We jumped on a bus to Los Angeles' Union Station (yeah, another one !) where we would meet our connecting Amtrak train to San Diego. We checked our luggage in and boarded the train a couple of hours later. The girls were pretty buggered from their long flight so they were pretty happy to get on the train. Danielle was asleep within minutes of the train departing. It was quite amusing as half an hour earlier she was telling us she couldn't sleep on trains. She was hardly an authority on the subject given the only other trains she has caught in her life were passenger trains.

She only slept for about half an hour but it was enough to get her spark back. The 3 of us headed down to the cafe car and sat at a table down there for the duration of the trip. Me and Wendy had a couple of beers and we all admired California's east coast as we made our way down to San Diego.

We arrived just after 2.00pm and grabbed a cab to our hotel. It was a nice warm summers day so after we dropped our gear off, we headed straight to the hotel pool for a swim. Both the pool and hot tub were great and the girls enjoyed it in particular, having been awake and in the same clothes for a day and a half.

We headed back to the room, got spruced up, and headed back down to the hotel restaurant for dinner. Wendy and Danielle were introduced and treated to the same fried shit food which I have encountered for most of my trip. Me and Wendy had cheeseburgers with onion rings washed down with Long Island Iced Teas. Danielle jumped on the Mac n Cheese. The family was happy so the food wasn't all that bad to be fair.

We all headed back to the room for an early night. The girls were both 'sparko' within seconds of going to bed. I watched a bit of TV and listened to them snore before turning in also.

Great to be back with my babes :)

Over and out !
