But before that I need to survive 6 nights in San Francisco, a couple of nights on a road-trip to Los Angeles and a night actually in Los Angeles.
I had a nice cruisey morning as my flight to San Francisco wasn't due to depart until 2.00pm. As a result, I didn't drag my fat arse out of the scratcher until 8.00am. I pissed around for 2 hours, finished my packing, making myself look pretty and the like.
I checked out of the apartment just after 10am and headed down to Starbucks for a coffee and some fruit and yoghurt. Yes, you did hear right. I buggered around down there and finished my blog before jumping on the train to the airport
My airport screening wo's had returned. The Gestapo were present at Sea-Tac International Airport and I had yet another near rubber glove experience. During the screening of my bag, I got hauled aside and had to empty all of the contents of my bag on to a table because apparently I had too many electronic items in it. I apologised and said I wasn't aware they had recently imposed a limit. He looked at me like I was a smart arse and he was right. It was at that point I spotted the rubber gloves and decided to shut the feck up.
As it turned out, it wasn't a heap of electronic items that were the problem at all, it was the shit-load of fridge magnets I had been collecting as souvenirs from each city I had visited on my trip. After 5 minutes Colonel Klink managed to gain an appropriate level of confidence and let me pass. Thank Christ this is my last airport experience apart from when I depart for Auckland in a couple of weeks. As Wendy will be with me then, I might put the bloody magnets in her carry-on :)
Our flight left on time and we touched down in San Francisco 10 minutes early. The good news was as I had some company for my first 3 nights in San Francisco
The first step was to track the bugger (let's call him Dave, as that's his name) down. He was flying in from Cancun, Mexico via Houston, and was due to land about half an hour after my flight. I caught the Skytrain from my terminal to Terminal 3 where Dave's plane was due to dock. I was busy trying to find the flight number he had given me, which was incorrect (dip-shit !) on the 'Arrival's Board' when he strolled past.
I had considered drawing a sign with the word 'Arsehole' on it to greet him but there was no need in the end.
Dave and I jumped on the train to Downtown San Francisco and had a fairly entertaining 30 minute ride. There were a couple of drunks on board swearing and yelling and just being a general nuisance. It was pretty amusing though. I thought one guy was gonna give one of them a clip at one point. We jumped off at the correct stop which was only about a 5 minute walk from the hostel.
On our walk to the hostel we got asked for money from the homeless at every street corner we passed.
We checked in, freshened up, and headed down to an Irish pub around the corner for tea and a beer. I had a nice big roast carvery dinner. It almost felt like having real food for a change. We went for a wander round and ended up in another Irish bar afterwards. We had another ale before Dave decided he'd had enough. He'd had a huge night the night before so was not up for a big one.
We decided to call it a night but I informed Dave he was unlikely to be so lucky tomorrow night. We headed back to the hostel, past all the derelicts, who were well and truly getting into their work.
9.30pm Saturday night and Dave was sparko. And here I am writing my blog.
Sad arses !
Over and out !
