I got up after an awesome sleep. Beer and Jack Daniels will do that for you.

I had a ticket to the Legends Day at the track but decided against attending as I wanted to go to the Indy 500 Festival Parade which was downtown and kicked off at midday. I wouldn't have made it out to the track until 2pm and there wasn't any racing on, just autograph sessions from old racers and some displays, so not a biggie.

I had heard it was a good idea to secure a spot on the parade route early so you could get a good position. I headed off and on the way saw this awesome set-up. It was a mobile pedal-powered bar with people sitting around what was like a big bar leaner. They were all sitting on bar stools and peddling. Great concept - exercise and quenching ones thirst with beer at the same time.

I had a wander around the parade route looking for a good spot but there were already lines of people, 3 deep and there was still an hour to go before the parade started. Clearly they don't know who I am !!!!

I settled on a spot which had a relatively good view and waited for the pomp and ceremony to commence. Now, the yanks know how to throw a parade it has to be said. This parade is pretty famous and is held every year on Memorial Day weekend, prior to the big race. It is right up there with the likes of the St Paddy's Day parades staged at various cities around the US. There were some awesome floats accompanied with marching bands, cheerleaders, military, police and cultural groups.

They also had a few famous people involved in the parade including 80's rock band Foreigner, American rocker Eddie Money (who was a one hit wonder with the song, 'Take Me Home Tonight'), Actor Jim Nabors (aka Gomer Pyle) and some US Olympians. All of the drivers participating in tomorrow's race were also there, most with their wives/girlfriends and families.

I got a couple of great pics of our kiwi boy, Scott Dixon, who had his wife and 2 kids with him. I even managed to get a photo of him waving at me when he spotted my NZ flag after I yelled out to him.

After the parade, I bumped into a Maori boy who was over for the race. He was a hard case and was hoping to get some tickets to a basketball game being played tomorrow night between the Miami Heat and the Indiana Pacers. As it is a Conference Final, I don't fancy his chances.

I popped into a bar/restaurant on the way back to the apartment for a late lunch and decided to have a nice quiet afternoon and night given the expected boozefest and carnage tomorrow. Yeah, I know, I'm soft !

I decided to pen this blog and get it out of the way and do some packing as I expect I won't be much good this time tomorrow night.

Bring on the big race ....drivers start your engines !!!!

Over and out !
