Where I stayed
Today we headed to a new place, Monteverde. It was an interesting trip. First by van around the volcano to some random turnoff on the side of the road. Then we walked down a ramp to a waiting boat. Then we rode the boat across Lake Arenal. On the other side we were helped off of the boat onto a wooden plank because it was so muddy, then up a hill to a parking lot. Hop into another van for a journey on to Monteverde or really Santa Elena for us. The roads on this side of the lake were horrible, muddy, rutted, rocky roads. We had a great driver and it was scenic but in the US they wouldn't have left some of those roads open. So now we are here at a new place, the Sleeper's Sleep Cheaper Hostel. We have a room just for the three of us with our own bathroom, yee haw! It is small but I sure won't complain for $30 a night. The last place was $7 per person per night to give you an idea where we are staying.
This afternoon we went to a butterfly garden, it was really natural and scenic. We are figuring out where to go eat dinner now. The food here has been fine. Lots of rice and beans. Not much in the way of spices or seasonings though. I've found something I've liked every place we've gone. They aren't big dessert people here in Costa Rica so that part is a little different for us, but we did have ice cream several times.
Tomorrow we will go zip-lining and on some hanging bridges. Jason convinced Kate that zip-lining will be fun and she is a bit nervous but still wants to do it. So we shall see what happens. Right now it is windy and raining here so I hope that calms down before morning. It is probably around 60 here right now which seems cold after the last city!
Well, there is a time limit on this free machine so I have to log off now. Adios!
