LAX to Hong Kong.. United.. Non -stop. 14.5 hours.

Just got on a tired 747.. reminds me of those old DC-10's, LT11's with the big screen TV and 11 seats across. No individual personal entertainment, just the community cinema. First sign of the plane's age. Upon getting on the flight attendants repeatedly on the intercom warning us to not use the potable water in the bathroom. It is not safe. Well I needed to see what the fuss was, and it obvious with the rusted stoppers that this water system last worked during the Carter administration. Let's hope the rest of the plane has been upgraded since then. The wings look good. But then, the plane is just the vehicle, not the trip itself. Right?

First decision of trip. Check-in.. Should I pay $ 100 for "economy plus". Gut says say the money, world traveler in me says "what the hell". Well I must say the world traveler in me one that internal battle and I feel like a genius after having an entire row to myself. Earlier I did a walk around of the plane. I mean I can not sit still for 1 hour much less 14 and I do feel for the back of the bus folks.. I think every seat is full. I love my little row 38 with my 3 seats so I can go horizontal, vertical, and diagonal, sit on the floor, control the window shade.. Very nice. Life's little pleasures. So my first "extra expense" was money well spent. Leaving LAX at noon, 14 hours to Hong Kong, 16 hour time change.. We are scheduled to arrive tomorrow at 7:30pm. We will see what kind of shape I am upon arriving.
