Parents Visit The Dong
From November 1st to the 10th my parents came to visit. They stayed at my apartment and when I was not working they did sightseeing on their own. They visited East City and Huang He Kou 黄河口, where the Yellow River meets the sea. Regrettably they were unable to see the separation between the two because of the weather.
Feeling deprived and unable to have authentic Chinese food in the States my father indulged on cuisine from all parts of China. Every meal was a delicious feast. Perhaps the best meal was at a restaurant that specializes in donkey meat dishes. For the adventurous type I highly recommend donkey meat. It was tender and lean. It went well with the black ant bai jiu (white liquor).
For 2 days my parents and I traveled to Yantai 烟台, a surprising clean and quaint coastal city. In the summer time the city is a tourist hot spot due to its sandy beaches, but in the late autumn months the city had a different appeal. We stayed at a hotel right on the beach front. During the day we toured the old village, walked the beach, and briefly walked around the inner city. For dinner we had remarkable Korean fare. I plan to return to Yantai in the summer time.
