We walked to an attraction called the Foutain of Youth, apparently where Ponce de Leon (sp?) landed in Florida, but never went farther than the parking lot when we got inside. Then it was off to the alligator farm about 10 minutes by car.
Well, it was amazing at first, but exactly how many sleepy alligators do you need to see before it all becomes too much. most of them didn't even move
Besides alligators in pens and in the wild, they had a huge crock from austrialia, which one of the staff quietly told me they fed goats to....
After that, time to head back, stopping at a castle on the river called Castillo de San Marcos. Being somewhat jaded tourists, we didn't pay to go in, but rather took alook around the outside before heading back to Jacksonville.
One more stop back at the Old Jail to visit a gift store we stopped at earlier. I had seen a huge collection of Aligator heads for sale and figured i could pick one up at the alligator farm, but they didn't have any. So, I couldn't leave with out one and we had to stop to get one at this shop. Anyway, they are whats left of farm alligators that are raised for their meat. Not sure who eats alligator meat and we never went anywhere where this was on the menu. So now my alligator head sits on a shelf in my house, with candies on his tongue. All you have to do is reach in there and get one.
