Today we drove east eventually heading south to a town near San Antonio. The weather has been very hot.  A little cloudy today, but still above 90 degrees.

Two highlight stand out.  Well three, if you count another day of successful driving.  They drive very fast here on small roads.  I am waiting for a head on crash, yet, haven't heard of any.

First, we were told to have a meal at the Salt Lick, a BBQ place in Driftwood, just south of Austin.
The parking lot should have been our first clue that this was a huge place.  It would have held about 1000 cars.  They were several fields roped off to form several large lots.

The smell of burning wood could be smelled from a far distance.  Inside, the dining rooms were set up with picnic tables and benches.   There is a children's section plus a beer garden. However, one must bring their own alcohol.  There is a separate wine and beer store on site to purchase liquor if anyone wants it.  We wanted lemonade and were told that lemonade is only served on the weekends.  They bring in staff to squeeze lemons to make it fresh. On an average day they serve 4000 meals.

The second event was finding our way to the hotel.  We do not have a decent map, but had copied the directions from Google maps.  However, the map we were using was not for the hotel, but how to get to downtown New Braufels.  I drive, my navigator gives directions.  As we entered a traffic circle, Dianna says, "turn left at the second spur".  I had no clue, we laughed as there was no way any hotel was in this area anyway.   After a few turns and turnarounds we found our home.

A good day.
