A fabulous afternoon and evening.
We started the afternoon shopping for our dinner. We met up with our instructor and two other ladies. A third was on the way, she was having difficult parking. Melanie arrived in pink carrying a pink do carrier with a small dog. Who brings a dog to cooking school, well an opera singing coach does. The chef okayed it as she has a French poodle and loves dogs.

The produce at the market looked and tasted amazing. Everything displayed just so and all the vendors handed out free samples. Di and thought the peaches were good, but no they weren't good enough yet.

After collecting two huge bags of produce we headed to the fish market. Halibut or bass was to be our choice. Black bass it was, as it had been bled properly and had no bruising by being hung properly.

Not for the tricky part. We had to follow our chef to her house. I missed one light and boom, the two vehicles were gone. Missing one light here means missing more. Amazingly, I found her house. The road just appeared.

Her home is old, but beautiful and full of antiques. There was an Oscar on display. Her husband won it for One Flew Over The Cookco's Nest. Picked it up,it was sure heavy.

Drinks were ready for us, appetizers were made up, a type of melon drizzled with fig oil and fingerling lemons squeezed on top. Theses were like little pieces of caviar, incredible. Want some at home. Fresh figs were also added

The grilled watermelon salad was to die for, but you need to like goat cheese. The watermelon was cut into squares and one side was coated with a mexican spice then grilled on one side. When done the top is covered with chèvre and covered with chiffonade spinach, purple basil and balsamic vinegar.

The main course was grilled then baked bass, cover with a tomato salsa, zucchini pasta with tomato sauce. Very good. We also had stuffed tomatoes.

Then came cheese, more wine, and then dessert.

Everyone pitched it, Laurence, the chef, gave instructions and encouraged all of to try things. Her advice, go slowly to get it right. Her kitchen was well stocked. She explained what to cook with as well.

At the end we all pitched in to do dishes. The conversation flowed easily.


Now for Molly and Lilly. The two dogs had a blast. In and out, raced around our feet, and then crashed. It was fun to watch them enjoy each other on their play date.

We finally got home at 10:30. Money wll spent for the lesson. Maybe one day, I will cook for you.
