The World is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page. ~St. Augustine
I'm getting excited. I've been so nervous and anxious and although all of this travelling is going to be far more expensive than I ever would have imagined now I am trying not to focus on that. The limitations that having a strained budget will put on me should only help me to experience the true country and not spend so much of my time with the touristy fake attractions of these wonderful and exciting countries. I have to admit that although I have been trying I am still far from packed. Thankfully my passport and Visa's did get here yesterday. That was a total answer to prayer. My sisters passport has yet to make its appearance but thankfully she will be able to travel without it. My mom ofcourse has been worrying about everything but she seems more and more calm as the actual day approaches. I have also been emailing constantly trying to get in contact with everyone that I need to before I leave. It doesn't help that Monday is a holiday. We are planning on leaving here at 5pm and staying that night at Dr. Baileys house in Bloomington. It should be interesting since I'm sure we will all be a wreck. I'm really writing this entry to give you guys some more information about how you will be able to contact me while I'm out to sea. Here is a list of how you can send me mail and how you can do that. The advice from the previous SAS'ers has been to get people to send you as much mail as possible. They say that even though it is two weeks out of date it still is wonderful to recieve. I also wanted to clear the money situation up with you since my birthday will be while I am in the middle of the Indian Ocean. You can send money to the ship through the university of pittsburgh but I personally would prefer that you send it/give it to my mom and she will either pay off my bills or she will put it directly into my checking account where I have a debit card that I am taking with me to the other countries. Feel free to email me any questions or anything at all at jcarlso2@olivet.edu or jillcarlsonswimminaround@hotmail.com. Here is the addresses to send the mail. I'd really appreciate it!
Communication with the Ship

Important Reminder: Mail to those aboard ship should be addressed as follows:

Name of Person
C/O: Explorer
Arrival Date
Port Agent Address

Currently the U.S. Post Office recommends sending international mail at least two weeks in advance. Please keep in mind that mail service in other countries may vary. Letters should be sent Airmail only. Please do not send any mail to the Institute for Shipboard Education to be forwarded. Do not enclose currency in the mail.

Please do not send packages to the ship - Excessive duty is charged in some countries. In many instances, packages are not delivered to the ship. Packages may be held in customs, or at a local post office, and the recipient aboard ship is never notified. If you send packages, you do so at your own risk.

Please note: The agents listed below are not contracted by the Institute for Shipboard Education, but by the ship's management company. Therefore, the Institute cannot assume liability for the actions, or lack thereof, taken by those listed below regarding receipt and delivery of mail and faxes.
